My Favorite Journal Prompts

notebook from Goods for the Study (my favorite stationery in New York)

Over the years, I have honed in on what really works for me when it comes to a morning routine and I’ve shared variations of mine as it has evolved over time. One thing I can’t consistently commit to but feel serves me so deeply is journaling. Writing is something I turn to when I’m having a particularly hard issue that I’m working through, or I’m just not feeling like the best version of myself. Whether it be fear, doubt, anxiety, stress or a problem I’m trying to solve, I really love to journal through it in order to find the answer. I find that putting it all out on the page allows me to process and metabolize whatever it is I’m going through and when I’m done, I almost always feel better. I call it untangling the cobwebs of your mind. That’s actually why I called this blog the Journal - I wanted it to be a place where I come to share what’s going on my life with all of you! I look forward to writing these posts every week.

With that, I thought I’d share specific journaling prompts that I use when I’m needing to “write through” something. I also keep a list in my phone to come back to when I hear something that resonates with me.

Lately, I’ve been doing the below exercise to combat some fear and uncertainty I’ve been struggling with. I heard about it on this podcast episode. It goes like this:

What do I know to be true?
What is my fear?
Who would I be without this fear?
What would the universe have me do?

Other prompts I love:

  • What does my perfect day look like?

  • How do I want to feel today?

  • What am I grateful for?

  • What is my why?

  • What brings me joy?

  • What is the greatest example/expression/ideal of myself that I can present to the world today? (got this one from Dr. Joe Dispenza)

    • Another good one from Joe: What are the thoughts that pre-occupy my mind that I no longer wanted to think about anymore?

Other ones that I will try are:

  • Writing for 10-15 minutes free flow

  • Listening to a writing meditation (I love Superhuman)

We talk about journaling on tomorrow’s podcast episode so make sure you tune in if this resonates! x
