My Haircare Routine
I’ve always been conscientious of treating my hair well, especially since I like being blonder than my natural color. It’s only been since going to Life and Colour (you can use my name when you book for a discount) that I’ve taken the health of my hair to the next level. Their focus is on health of your hair and color that is maintanable within your own personal capacity. As a busy working mom, I know I can’t go to the salon every 6-8 weeks, so the color we do is very “lived in” ie: has a very natural colored root. This is a mixture of balayage and hand painting and toning which my stylists put together for me at the beginning of the appt. This allows me to go 3-6 months between appointments without even noticing. Overall, my color routine is: brighter at the beginning of the summer, a tone up / gloss 3 months later, and then darker for the fall. I try to keep the darker fall color at least 6 months before going in for a touch up as I try to grow my hair as long as possible and find it easier to do in the winter when I’m more in hibernation mode. My biggest pet peeve in the world is a “line” when your root grows out and I never have this when I grow out my hair after my appointments at L&C. One thing to note is I almost always get a trim at every appointment. I know it feels like you’re always cutting your hair but I promise you your hair will look 100x better fresh and half an inch shorter than long and scraggly. THANK ME LATER. People always ask me who to go see but you really can’t go wrong. There are a ton of blonde specialists. If you have specific questions about stylists, I’d email them: hello@lifeandcolour.com
One other treatment I do 1-2x per year is the Cezanne smoothing treatment since I have naturally frizzy hair. It tames my frizz and allows me to air dry my hair into a cool beachy look. More about Cezanne here including a discount code for booking at L&C (SOPHIESMOOTH).
Now that you know how frequently I color and cut, I’ll break down my at home routine including product I use, supplements I take, and tools that I rely on to keep things healthy.
Product / Tools - most product available either online or in store at Life & Colour (linked otherwise)
I wash my hair usually twice a week. I most often use the AG SMOOOTH line (shampoo + conditioner)
Once a week, I use the AG BOOST apple cider vinegar shampoo and then towel dry with our Waffle Towels before brushing and using the K18 Leave-In Mask
I’ll do a purple toning mask 1-2 x per month
Before blowdrying, I always always always use a quarter sized amount of the AG Set it Straight Serum. My hair guru, Christine, taught me to use more than I think
I blowdry using the Dyson Air Wrap. It is expensive but I have noticed less breakage since switching over from a conventional blowdryer
Then, I spray my hair with the AG Firewall Flat Iron Spray before curling with my Amazon curling iron
While the curls set, I spray my favorite dry shampoo to add volume. Then I brush out the curls. My full curling process is shared here
To keep my hair “done” I only use these scrunchies
Supplements
You know I’m a firm believer in building beauty from the inside. These are a few of the supplements I rely on for my hair (and skin, and overall) health.
Bend Beauty Renew + Protect (code is SOPHIE20)
Collagen Creamer in my coffee (recipe here)
AG1 - you can use this link for a one year supply of Vitamin D3+K2 & 5 free travel packs of AG1
I hope that helps! xx
