Italy Scheming
Whenever I have a big trip planned, the first thing I do is book flights + accommodations. After that, I confirm reservations for meals and any activities I want to do. Lastly, I start scheeeeeming and I mean scheming. I daydream about the entire trip. I think about how I want to feel each day. I think of what I want to call in for the trip. I also organize the kids (whether or not they’re coming with us).
Part of my scheming is of the wardrobe variety. I check the weather and often Pinterest for outfit inspiration (or even just vibe inspiration if you know what I mean!?) All that to say, I’ve put together quite a packing list for our upcoming 7 days overseas and since quite a few have asked me to share, I wanted to put this post together so you can reference for further details. I always try to pull outfit inspiration from Pinterest and cross reference with what’s in my closet. Then, I start a note in my phone with specific outfit ideas (ex: this three piece suit) as well as everyday pieces that I can wear a variety of ways (ie: these jeans).
To start, you can find the foundation of my packing list here. A mix of tried and true pieces I love and wear every week as well as a few special occasion options. We’re staying at two bucket list hotels so I know we’ll be dressing up. It’s also my best friend’s wedding hence the fancier looks!
Once I have a base of looks, I will start to browse other items that I want to round out my suitcase. Oftentimes I’ll look at new arrivals and see what I already have in my closet to emulate styles that I like. I am a huge fan of shopping my own closet or even my husband’s in order to put together a look I love. With that in mind, here are some of the pieces I’m eyeing or trying to find a version of at home:
A fun printed pant to wear to the beach over a classic swimsuit and/or with a white button down - topped off with my favorite and best fitting cap and some cute sunnies
A flowy dress (thinking I’ll bring black and/or white) with simple sandals or flats
A jacket/sweatshirt that works just as well on the plane as it does for chilly coffee mornings by the sea paired with leggings that serve the same purpose (matching top here)
For sneakers, I’ll be bringing my trusty travel sneakers + another pair for casual day to day use
On my dream wish list, I have this bag for dinners, this bag for the beach, and these pants in both colors. Also wouldn’t be opposed to this dress for the wedding
For that built in European flair, I’m turning to this brand, specifically these knit trousers (YES - KNIT TROUSERS!!!!), this chocolate crocodile cross-body bag (or this chocolate bucket tote) paired with this top, and this coat. Finally, I’m loving the looks of this leopard jacket, this ivory sweater and this merino mini coat.
I hope that inspires you for your trips ahead! If you’re curious, you can also check out my NYC Packing List for more inspo xx
